Blog Assignment 1
About a Bonner
My name is Jessica Bonner. I am 25 years old and grew up in a small town north of Birmingham, AL called Mt. Olive. I graduated from UAB in 2008 with a BA in Political Science and plans of attending law school. However, my first job after graduation was teaching 6th grade at a small private elementary school. After a year of teaching, I knew that law school wasn't for me. I also knew that to be an effective teacher I would have to go back to school. My husband's company decided to transfer him from Birmingham to Mobile in February of last year. We both took the opportunity to go back to school and chose the University of South Alabama. We are planning on moving back home to Mt. Olive when we complete school in 2013. I am majoring in Secondary Education/History and would love to teach middle school somewhere in the Birmingham area.
I am a hopeless bookworm. My favorite books include (but are not limited to) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Pride and Prejudice, and The Moonstone. I actually met Harper Lee when I was a senior in high school, which was a great honor for me personally. When I am not reading, I enjoy following politics, watching movies,
and spending quality time with my husband. Family and Faith are very important to us. We spend a lot of time making trips back to Birmingham to see our parents and friends. When we stay here in Mobile, we spend time with our church family.
PART II Response to Randy Pausch Video
As someone who has struggled with time management in the past, I realize the wisdom in Dr. Pausch's words immediately. When he equated time and money, the concept more real and accessible to me. I think hard about letting a $20 bill go out of my hand but often think nothing of letting 20 minutes go by wasted or unused. Realizing the value of my time really hit me hard. When he said that it was more important "to do the right things than to do things right," I had a tendency to disagree. However, after some reflection, I decided that prioritizing is a HUGE part of proper time management. Overall, it was an informative video, and a great reminder of how important it is to properly allocate my time.
